Stop Writing!

• Why do people continuously write? How long shall we write? – How many books – how many schools of thought – what have we achieved, which our forefathers have not. Am I a Pessimist?
• Today we speak of dignity – A Gain! Did we stop slavery with our books? Should I believe that there is no slavery today? Should I say that today we are wealthy?  Slavery exists in different forms – being wealthy is an illusion: if God is an illusion!
• Is having money being wealthy or knowing that how money will be helpful [Knowledge is wealth!]. Is it the awareness of Adam Smith or the awareness of the determinism of Spinoza?
• When will we stop writing, like Aquinas did? My question is not, when are we going to stop writing like Aquinas on every subject and on everything, rather it is, when are we going to stop writing As Aquinas stopped writing or refused to write?

INDIVIDUALITY AND UNIQUNESS

We the moderns claim that no two individuals are alike. No two persons' goals are necessarily the same. 'Singularity' is precious. Without getting to the philosophical issues, I would like to raise some questions that can be raised from the experiences of our life world. 

The claim is that we live in a world where one's individuality is abolished with the arrival of machines, particularly computer.  – my handwriting is gone… along with all others’. 

• People all over the world write the same way. They look beautiful …  to look different everyone chooses different fonts, size etc.[but one chooses only from what is given.] Everything is ‘even’, ‘the same,’ same curves, same size – does this mean beautiful? Uniformity is only one aspect of beauty? Is not it? It is very hard to see where I have fallen, and where I made a mistake. There is nothing in my paper like this. Does it mean that I never make a mistake? Am I perfect? It only seems that nobody in the world makes anymore mistakes. Or Is everything that is uttered considered to be right? Everybody is perfect. Everybody writes the same way. What a world is this?
• Indians are often seen to be people falling into what is called 'popular culture'. They often show the western world to be a model how everyone thinks and acts on his own. But the pop-culture, running after the celebrities, following and craving for the look of the celebrities is much stronger in the Western countries although variations can be there. while on the one side I claim to be unique and set my life on my way, I only choose to go along with others who have the same liking...

வாழ்க தேசிய ஒற்றுமை

நேற்றுதான் துப்பாக்கி பார்த்தேன். உடனேயே துப்பார்க்குத் துப்பாய குறள்தான் நினைவுக்கு வந்தது. எழுதலாமென்று வலைப் பக்கம் வந்தால் அதிஷாவின் துப்பார்க்குத் துப்பாய டாஸ் போர்டில் நின்றது. எனவே துப்பாக்கியைத் தூரவைத்து விட்டு இன்னொரு தேசிய ஒற்றுமை பற்றி எழுதுவோம் என்று தோன்றியது.

சில நாட்களுக்கு முன்பு கூடங்குளம் அணு உலைகளின் கழிவுகளை மூடிக் கிடக்கும் கோலார் தங்க வயலில் கொட்டுவதற்கு ஒரு போதும் அனுமதிக்க மாட்டோம் என்று கர்நாடக அரசு அறிவித்திருக்கிறது. அது மட்டுமல்ல. அங்கு மட்டுமல்ல கர்னாடக எல்லையின் எந்த ஒரு இடத்திலும் அதைக் கொட்ட அனுமதிக்க மாட்டோம். 

இவர்கள் தான் கூடங்குளம் அணுமின் நிலையத்திலிருந்து மின்சாரம் நாங்கள் பெறுவோம் என்று சொன்னவர்கள். இங்கே சுற்றி இருக்கும் எல்லாரும் வயித்தில புளியைக் கரைச்சுக்கிட்டு இருக்கணும். இங்க உற்பத்தியாகிற மின்சாரத்தை கேரளா வாங்குமாம் - கர்நாடகா வாங்குமாம். ஆனால் கழிவு கூட அவர்கள் மண்ணை மிதிக்கக் கூடாதாம். 

 இந்தப் பக்கம் ஒரு அரசு வருகிற கொஞ்ச நஞ்ச தண்ணிக்கும் உலை வைக்கப் பார்க்குது. அந்தப் பக்கம் தண்ணீர் தரவே மாட்டோம் - ன்னு அடம் பிடிக்குது ஒரு அரசு. ஆனால் இரண்டு பேருக்கும் இங்கேயிருந்து மின்சாரம் வேணுமாம். ஏன்னா நாமெல்லால் ஒரே தேசம். பக்கத்தில இருக்கவுங்க என்ன செய்தாலும் நாம மட்டும் எல்லாருக்கும் அனுசரணையா இருக்கனுமாம். அவர்கள் உச்ச நீதிமன்ற தீர்ப்பைக் கூட மீறலாம். அதெல்லாம் ஒன்றுமில்லை. நாம் மட்டும் ஏதாவது சொன்னால் நாட்டைப் பிளக்க சதின்னு தமிழ் நாட்டுல இருக்கவந்தான் சொல்றான்.

இப்ப உச்ச நீதி மன்றம் கொஞ்சம் யோசிக்க ஆரம்பித்து விட்டது. எதுக்கு நம்ம தீர்ப்பு குடுத்து - அத அவங்க மதிக்காம போனாலும் நம்ம ஒன்னும் செய்ய முடியாம இருக்கோம். அதுனால இனி தீர்ப்பே வேண்டாம் அப்படின்னு முடிவுக்கு வந்து விட்டது. இப்ப என்னடான்னா உச்ச நீதி மன்றம் - காவிரி நீர்ப் பிரச்னைக்கு இரு மாநில முதல்வர்களும் பேசித்தீர்க்க வேண்டும் என்று  யோசனை தெரிவித்து இருக்கிறதாம். அப்படியே கோர்ட்டுக்கு வர்ற எல்லா கேசுகளுக்கும் யோசனை மட்டும் சொன்னா நல்லா இருக்கும்.

மாண்பு மிகு நாராயண சாமி அவர்கள் "கூடங்குளத்தில் உற்பத்தியாகும் மின்சாரம் ஒப்பந்தப் படி நான்கு மாநிலங்களுக்கு பிரித்துக் கொடுக்கப்படும் என்று திருவாய் மலர்ந்த்திருக்கிறார். யாரோடோ போட்ட ஒப்பந்தம். எங்க சொல்லிப் போட்டாங்க? இதென்ன கொடுமை சரவணா? எல்லாத் துன்பங்களையும் நம்ம அனுபவிக்கனும், அவர்கள் எதையுமே விட்டுக் கொடுக்காமல் எல்லாத்தையும் பெறனும்னா நல்ல தேசியம் நல்ல ஒற்றுமை.

பேசாம விஜய் சாரை மிலிட்டரிலேர்ந்து ஒரு நாற்பது நாள் லீவுல தமிழ்நாட்டுக்கு வரச் சொல்லி ஏதாவது செய்ய முடியுமான்னு கேக்கலாம். அவர் லீவுல மும்பைக்குப் போனதுனால இந்த விவகாரத்துல நமக்கு என்ன நடக்குதுன்னே தெரியலை.

சூப்பர் சிங்கர் ஜூனியர் த்ரி - ஆஜித் - விடாமுயற்சி விஸ்வரூப வெற்றி

எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்த தொலைக்காட்சி நிகழ்ச்சி நிச்சயமாய் சூப்பர் சிங்கர். இந்த முறை ஜூனியர் என்பதனால் இன்னும் அதிகமான நெருக்கம்.

குழல் இனிது யாழ் இனிது என்பர் மழலைச் சொல் கேளாதவர் ... 

அற்புதமான குழந்தைகளின் குரல்களில் ஏற்கனவே கேட்ட பாடல்கள் கூட இன்னும் இனிதாகவே இருந்தது.

பைனலில் திரு. ஏ. ஆர். ரகுமான் அவர்கள் முன்னிலையில், தம்பி அஜீத் வெற்றி பெற்றது நிச்சயமாய் அவனுக்கு என்றென்றும் நினைவில் இருக்கும். உண்மையில் வெற்றி பெறுவதற்கான நபர் அவர்தான் என்றே நான் கருதியிருந்தேன். அப்படி இல்லையென்றாலும் அவர் வெற்றி பெறுவதற்கான வாய்ப்பு அதிகம் என்றே கருதியிருந்தேன். ஏனெனில் டாப் ஐந்தில் வராதவர் பைனலில் வெற்றி பெற்றால் தானே ஒரு கிக்.

என்னதான் குரல்களின் மயக்கம் நம்மை யோசிக்க விடாமல் செய்தாலும் நம்மால் யோசிக்காமல் இருக்க முடியவில்லை... விஜய் தொலைக் காட்சி தனது சில்மிஷங்களை தொடர்ந்து செய்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது என்றே தோன்றுகிறது. கடந்த முறை அதிக எஸ் எம் எஸ்கள் பெற்று சாய் வெற்றி பெற்றார் என்று மட்டும்தான் சொன்னது. இந்த முறையும் அதே போல அதிக வாக்கு என்னிக்கையில் இவர் வெற்றி பெற்றார் என்றுதான்  சொன்னார்கள். இந்த முறை வைல்ட் கார்டில் எண்ணிக்கை சொன்னவர்கள் பைனலில் எண்ணிக்கைகளைச் சொல்ல வில்லை.  இருந்தாலும் கடந்த முறையைக் காட்டிலும் இந்த முறை ரிசல்ட் சரியாக இருந்தது போலவே தோன்றியது - இருந்தாலும் சில கேள்விகள் இல்லாமல் இல்லை.

ஏற்கனவே மூன்று இந்து தம்பி தங்கைகள் பைனலில் சேர்ந்து விட்ட பிறகு வைல்ட் கார்டில் இருந்து பைனலில் வர வேண்டியது ஒரு இஸ்லாமிய மற்றும் கிறித்தவ குழந்தை.... அது அப்படியே நடந்தது.  இப்படித்தான் நடக்கும் என்பதை நான் எதிர் பார்த்திருந்தேன். என் நண்பர் ஒருவரிடம் அதைப் பற்றி முண்பே சொல்லியிருந்தேன். அது அப்படியே நடந்ததைப் பார்த்த பிறகு ஒன்று  ஜோசியம் சொல்லலாம் அல்லது ஒரு தொலைக் காட்சி நிகழ்ச்சி நடத்தும் தகுதி எனக்கு இருக்கிறது என்பதை நினைத்து எனக்கு பெருமையாக இருந்தது.   இது போல எத்தனை பேர் பெருமைப் பட்டிருக்கிறிர்களோ, யாருக்குத் தெரியும்? 

வைல்ட் கார்டில் இருந்து பைனலுக்கு வரும் நபர்களுக்கு வாக்குகள் அதிகம் பெற வாய்ப்பு இருக்கிறது. அது நேரடியாக பைனலுக்கு நுழையும் நபர்களுக்கு இல்லை.  காரணம் நிறைய இருக்கின்றது. 

இந்த முறை நிச்சயமாய் சுகன்யாவும் கவுதமும் ஒழுங்காக பாட வில்லை. இருவரின்  வாய்சும்    ஒத்துழைக்க வில்லை என்பது மட்டுமலாமல் பல இடங்களில் சுருதி சேர வில்லை என்பதும் உண்மை. உண்மையிலேயே சுருதி சேரவில்லையா சேர விட வில்லையா என்பது தெரிய வில்லை. மிகவும் கடினமான பாடல்களையே தேர்ந்தெடுக்கும் சுகன்யா இந்த முறை கொஞ்சம் இலகுவான பாடலையே தேர்ந்தெடுத்தது போலவே இருந்தது. சரி ...அப்படியே அவர்கள் மிக நன்றாகப் பாடி இருந்தாலும் வெற்றி பெறுவதற்கான வாய்ப்புகள் மிகவும் குறைவு என்றே தோன்றியது...  இது எப்போதும் நடப்பது தானே. அடுத்த முறையில் இருந்து முதலில் நேரடியாக பைனலுக்குத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப் படும் நபர் நிச்சயமாய் வெற்றி பெறுவதற்கான வாய்ப்பு இல்லை என்றே யோசிப்பார் இப்போது சுகன்யா யோசித்துக் கொண்டிருப்பதைப் போல.

வழக்கம் போல திரு மனோ அவர்கள் ஏதாவது சொல்லி அவர்கள் எதையும் கணக்கு பண்ணுவதில்லை என்பதை நமக்குத் தெளிவு படுத்திக் கொண்டுதான் இருக்கிறார். 

ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் யாராவது வெளியேற்றப் படும் போது புள்ளி ஐந்து மதிப்பெண்களில் தான் வெளியேறி இருக்கிறார்கள். அதற்கு குறைவாகவோ அல்லது அதிகமாகவோ பெற்று யாரும் உள்ளேயும் இல்லை வெளியேவும் போகவில்லை.  அப்படித் தான் திரு மனோ அவர்கள் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்கள். அந்த ரவுண்டில் இந்த இடத்தில் சுருதி சேரலை .. உங்கள் இரண்டு பேரில் நீ இதில் சரியில்லை... அதில் சரியில்லை என்று யாரும் சுட்டிக் காட்டுவதில்லை. ஆனால் மதிப்பெண்கள் மட்டும் புள்ளி. ஐந்துதான் வித்தியாசம் இருக்கும்.

அது எப்போதுமே பொய் என்பதை அவராக மைக்கைப் புடுங்கி பைனல் மேடையில் பேசி மீண்டும் நிருபித்து விட்டார். அதாவது - அஜூத் மற்றும் பிரகதி இருவரும் அனைத்து நடுவர்களிடமிருந்து ஒரே மதிப்பெண்களைப் பெற்றதாகவும், எஸ். எம். எஸ் களில் மட்டும் புள்ளி ஐந்து மதிப்பெண் கூடப் பெற்று ஆஜித் வெற்றி பெற்றதாகவும் திரு. மனோ சொன்னது தாங்கள் ஏற்கனவே இது போல ஒவ்வொரு வாரக் கடைசியிலும் சொன்னது உண்மையில்லை என்பதை நிருபித்து இருக்கிறார்.

அந்த புள்ளி பாதி எஸ். எம். எஸ் அனுப்புன அந்தப் புண்ணியாவான் யார்ன்னு தெரிந்தா அந்த மாதிரி பாதி எஸ். எம். எஸ். எப்படி அனுப்பு றதுன்னு சொன்னா நல்லா இருக்கும். ஒருவேளை அவரே புள்ளி. ஐந்து எஸ். எம். எஸ். அனுப்புனாரோ என்னவோ.

என்னதான் உள்ளே அரசியல் நடந்தாலும் இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியின் அடுத்த பாகத்தைப் பார்க்க மாட்டேன் என்கிற உறுதியை மட்டும் என்னால் வழங்க முடியாது. இசைக்கு மயங்காதவர்கள் யாரவது உண்டா... என்ன?

ஆனால் இந்த முறை இணையத்தில் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் என்னைப் போன்றவர்களை ஊமைப் படம் பார்க்க வைத்த பெருமை விஜய் டிவிக்கே சேரும். இதை தெரியாமல் நடந்த பிழையாகக் கருத முடிய வில்லை. 

A Stranger is not a Stranger

It was 14^th October 2012. I was travelling from Germany in a train. I could not speak German well since it is not my mother tongue. Very few suffer like me.  But many today speak in many languages as though using the ‘shift’ key in a computer. I find it difficult to switch between three languages. I wonder how people do that between five and six. 

I was hesitant to start a conversation with a stranger who was sitting next to me because he was speaking in German with some of his friends. Another wonder with the system of the railways, when you book the ticket together you do not get adjacent seats. You find always a stranger inside. You have to personally and verbally request the stranger to change the place. In India they ask you to even change coaches. Here they are very hesitant even to request to sit in the next seat. What is given is given – but it also means that they do not want to intrude in what is given to them. More, one does not know how the other would react.

I was already a stranger in the train, and still a remote stranger between the companions who traveled together. Even with a stranger who is doubly alienated, a conversation could be initiated. It starts from silence. who said  one needs language to communicate? A peaceful silence that has a smile normally kicks off with a common, agreeing note like mamma mia – che caldo! Or what a bright and sunny day? Well if there is no smile, then there is no conversation. Even if there were to be one it will be cold, hard, and strict NO.

I had already smiled and he reciprocated it. After entering Austrian the border we started speaking about the rivers that flow, the climate, and the European Union. He and I shared the same feeling that this union could be a model for other continents in living together irrespective of different languages. I told him that India too has a model - which house different languages and culture. He thought that India has a single language. It was a revelation for him to know that the north Indians do not understand the south Indians and vice versa.  

India is a country but European Union is not.

நம்ம மகாத்மா

ஒரு தொலைக் காட்சியின் காணொளியை எனது வலைப் பதிவில் தருவது இது இரண்டாவது முறை என்று நினைக்கிறேன். முதல் முறை சுப்ரமணிய சுவாமியின் பேட்டிஒன்று. இது இரண்டாவது. காந்தி பிறந்த நாளில் மிகவும் காத்திரமான ஒரு கட்டுரை எழுத வேண்டும் என்று நினைத்தேன். ஆனால் அது கை கூட வில்லை. இந்தக் கானோளியைக்கண்ட பிறகு எழுதாமல் இருப்பதே நல்லது என்று தோன்றியது. அடிப்படைச் செய்திகள் கூடத் தெரியாத நமக்கு என்ன மிகப் பெரியக் கட்டுரை தேவை என்று தோன்றியது.

தேசப் பிதா... மகாத்மா பற்றி என்ன தெரிந்திருக்கிறது நமக்கு. நமது கல்வி முறை தேதிகளை நினைவில் வைக்கச் சொல்லிக் கொடுத்தாலும் நமக்கு அது மனதில் பதிவதில்லை. கல்வி முறை பற்றியும் அதிகம் சிந்திக்க வேண்டியிருக்கிறது.

MODERN AND PRE-MODERN

The former prime minister of Britain, Mr. Tony Blair, who is a Roman Catholic, has reacted to the recent violent protests that caused the life of many people all over the world, saying, “I think what we shouldn't do is lose sight of what the real issue is, and the real issue is how do people actually think it is justified to react in a way that ends up innocent people being killed. […] So no, this is a profound problem; it’s a problem, as I say, which is about the struggle of modernization. The good news is, in the end, the modernizers will win incidentally, but it will take a long time to do.”[1]

One can well agree with Tony Blair that no one can justify the death of innocent persons. He is right in asserting that demanding the persons behind the film should be held responsible. But I am interested in his comment about modernity.

Modernization for most westerners means that it is about the freedom of the individual. A society is considered to be modern only when the individual freedom is attained. There should not be a major issue with this understanding. The further explanation at the comment of Blair is to indicate that one should be able to respect the views of others. This means that the modern people will be more tolerant and magnanimous in accepting the view of others even if it is a false view.

But how is that the individual who expects that everybody’s view should be respected does not respect the view of others even if it is a false one. I explain: sorry to use the name of Blair. If Blair thinks that the modern notion of freedom is to respect the view of others, then the Muslims should be able to respect the view of the director of the Movie. That is the sign of being modern. Because they are not modern, then they react violently.

My question is – if the views of others should be respected, why the director, who is a modern, does not respect the view of the millions of Muslims. 

Who is pre-modern – the director or the Muslims? Or Both?
